MEADVILLE, PA. – April 15, 2021 – Hiram baseball dropped a pair of games at Allegheny Thursday afternoon, falling in game one 2-0 and losing game two 10-2.
GAME 1: In the first game Allegheny struck first when Jacob Budnar reached on a fielder's choice causing Jake Stotsky to score in the second inning.
In the top of the fourth inning
Curtis Caithaml hit a double, but the Terriers didn't make any more damage. Allegheny scored their second run of the game in the bottom half of the inning with Dalton Dubois hitting an RBI sacrifice fly scoring Brett Heckert to make it 2-0 Gators.
Hiram put two runners on in the fifth inning.
Aidan Jantz singled which was followed by
Chaisson Marrs drawing a walk. The road side was unable to do anything else as Allegheny would win 2-0.
Stephen Javorek (2-2) took the loss pitching six innings giving up one earned run with two strikeouts. This is the fourth time this season that the right handed pitcher has gone at least six innings.
Caithaml and Jantz each had hits for the Terriers in the defeat.
David Paus and Marrs added walks.
Conor Deasy (2-0) took the win throwing a complete game shutout.
GAME 2: The Gators again scored first in the second game. Heckert hit an RBI sacrifice fly scoring Luke Chutko. Allegheny added two more runs in the third inning and three in the fourth.
Chutko hit an RBI single with Heckert hitting another RBI sacrifice fly extending the lead to 3-0.
Jonathan Sharp hit a solo home run in the fourth frame. Two more RBI singles pushed the Gators lead to 6-0.
Kyle Workman started the scoring for Hiram in the bottom of the fifth inning hitting an RBI single scoring
Kyle Adams. Workman would advance to second base on a balk followed by
Michael Corsillo reaching first with a walk.
David Paus got another runner across the plate with an RBI single scoring Workman to make it 6-2.
The home team scored four more runs in the fifth inning including three different RBI singles.
Paus had two hits for Hiram with Workman and Jantz each adding one. Workman and Paus also had the two RBI for the road side. Nine different Terriers had walks in the game two.
Daniel Quintero Jr. (1-4) made the start for Hiram and took the loss. The right hander pitched 3.2 innings with four strikeouts.
Zachary Scalf pitched a scoreless inning of relief.
Nolan Thompson (1-0) picked up the win for Allegheny. Thompson pitched 4.2 innings with five strikeouts.
Hiram (7-19) will next play at home on Saturday, April 17 with a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
