GAMBIER, Ohio – April 10, 2021 – Hiram softball won two games at Kenyon on Saturday, winning game one of the doubleheader, 10-0 in five innings, and winning game two by a score of 13-3.
GAME 1: Hiram scored early and often in the first contest.
Giselle Bahena reached on a fielder's choice allowing
Abriana Schwartz to score in the first inning.
Mariah Sheffield then knocked a two-run single scoring Bahena and
Kaitlyn Hager extending the lead to 3-0.
Bahena continued to hit at the plate in the second inning hitting an RBI single scoring
Larissa Baeza. In the same frame Sheffield stayed hot at the plate hitting a two-run home run.
In the fourth inning Sheffield hit a two-run single giving Hiram an 8-0 lead. In the fifth and final inning of game number one Schwartz hit an RBI double and Hager hit an RBI single.
The Terriers would go on to win 10-0 in five innings.
In the circle
Jeskari Rodriguez pitched all five innings surrendering two hits with six strikeouts. Rodriguez earned her sixth win of the campaign which includes five straight wins. Emily Peter (0-2) took the loss for Kenyon.
Two Terriers had three hit games in Hager and Sheffield. Hager added two runs with an RBI and Sheffield had a run scored with six RBI. The six RBI are a season high for Sheffield as the senior also picked up her first home run of the campaign.
Schwartz and Bahena also added two hits for Hiram. Schwartz added two runs scored and an RBI with Bahena scoring three runs and knocking in two RBI.
GAME 2: In game two
Leah Valdez got the scoring started for Hiram. The junior hit a two-run single scoring Sheffield and Schwartz. In the second inning Schwartz hit a sacrifice fly causing
Melissa Galindo to score. Baeza advanced home on a throwing error making it 4-0.
Kenyon notched three runs in the second inning on a bases clearing double from Clare McMahon.
From there on out the road side would continue to be dominant at the plate. In the fourth inning Hager hit a two-run double scoring Baeza and Galindo. Baeza hit an RBI single in the sixth pushing the Terriers lead to 7-3.
The bats stayed hot into the seventh inning as Hiram scored six runs.
Lauryn Olguin hit her first career home run with Galindo also doubling in the inning. Completing the scoring was an RBI single from Hager making it 13-3.
Bailey Scheck went the distance for the road team picking up the win. The senior improves to 4-6 while tying a season high in strikeouts with seven. Toni Rogers (0-2) took the loss for Kenyon.
Hager picked up where she left off from game one at the plate. The senior went 2-for-5 with three RBI.
Avery Balurdi picked up two hits with a run and an RBI. Galindo added a career high in hits with four while also scoring three runs. Baeza also reached a career high in hits with three.
The 13 runs scored are the most scored in any game this year for Hiram as the Terriers are now on a four game winning streak. The team is now 5-1 in NCAC play.
Hiram (10-9) will play Kenyon again tomorrow, Sunday April, 11, at Hiram with a doubleheader starting a 1 p.m.
