Hiram Baseball Defeated By Case Western In Home Doubleheader

HIRAM, Ohio – March 31, 2021 – Hiram baseball dropped a home doubleheader playing Case Western Reserve at home on Wednesday afternoon falling in game one, 6-3 in eight innings and losing 10-3 in game two.  

GAME 1: Evan Fairbanks started the scoring for the home side scoring Curtis Caithaml in the top of the first inning giving the Terriers an early 1-0 lead.

Two Case Western Reserve solo home runs gave the visiting side a 2-1 lead. Benjamin Stawicki hit his solo blast in the third inning followed by Nick Talarico hitting one in the fifth frame.

In the fifth inning Hiram would take advantage of two wild pitches taking the lead at 3-2. Curtis Caithaml and David Paus each scored on wild pitches.

Talarico hit another solo home run in the seventh inning to tie the game at three and force extra innings.

CWRU would score three runs in the eighth frame to win the game 6-3. Zack Caranci hit an RBI double that was followed by Jonathan Simon's two run single.

Robert James made the start for Hiram pitching five and one third innings giving up two earned runs while striking out three. Brennan Cain (0-1) took the loss for the Terriers.

David Paus had three hits for the home side adding a run scored. Michael Corsillo collected two hits.

Tony Smodilla (2-1) picked up the win for CWRU pitching the final two innings of game number one.

GAME 2: In game two Case Western scored first and didn't look back. The Spartans scored first on a Zack Caranci RBI single.

In the third inning CWRU plated five more runs stretching their lead to 6-0. Matthew Dubois headlined the inning hitting a grand slam.

Chaisson Marrs hit an RBI single in the third inning getting the Terriers on the scoreboard at 6-1.

In the fifth inning Curtis Caithaml reached on a fielder's choice scoring Kyle Adams. Evan Fairbanks had a bases loaded walk making the score 8-3 CWRU.

The Spartans scored once more in the sixth and seventh innings winning the second contest 10-3.

Michael Corsillo continued hitting at the plate in game two going 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Kyle Adams also added two hits for the Terriers. In total Hiram had ten hits in game two.

John Lusnek (0-3) took the loss for the Terriers. Sankalp Doshi (1-0) took the win for CWRU tossing two innings with no earned runs and four strikeouts.

Hiram next plays at Wooster on Saturday, April 3 with a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
