HIRAM, Ohio – March 26, 2021 – Hiram men's basketball dropped their final home game of the 2021 season losing to Carnegie Mellon, 93-80 inside Price Gymnasium on Friday night.
The Terriers stormed out to an 18-7 lead in the first half after
Nassiem Salem hit a jump shot with 13:45 left in the first half.
Carnegie Mellon tied the game at 26 with Nick Nakasian hitting a layup with 6:31 left in the first half.
Between the made bucket and the 3:43 mark the Tartans would go on a 7-0 run taking a 35-28 lead.
Oliver Clingain made a layup cutting the lead to 38-33 right before the half. A three point shot with less than a minute left gave CMU a 41-35 at halftime.
It was a back and forth contest to begin the second half.
Brodgie Gordon hit a jump shot making it 56-49 with 14:29 remaining in the contest.
The road team took a 62-61 lead on a Zach Watson jump shot with just under 12 minutes left in the game.
Kevin Beans Jr. cut the CMU lead to eight after a made layup shortening the Tartans lead to 73-65 with 8:35 left.
Carnegie Mellon would pull away and take a lead of 15 after a Nakasian layup with 2:05 left. The Tartans would win by a final score of 93-80.
CMU had four players in double digits headlined by Sean Oberman who had 26.
Hiram also had four players score ten or more points. Gordon and Beans Jr. each had 17, while Clingain and
Ishmaaeel Hayes-Muhammad had 12. Hiram shot 46.4% from the field during the contest.
Additionally, the four players listed above had multiple steals as well. Beans Jr. led the team with four. Gordon had three and Hayes-Muhammad and Clingain had two.
Carnegie Mellon picked up the win in their first official contest of the year to move to 1-0.
Hiram falls to 0-3 in their final home game of the season.
The two teams will meet again on Sunday, March 28 at 1 p.m. at Carnegie Mellon. This game will be the final contest of the season for the Terriers.
