SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – March 21, 2021 – Hiram baseball lost two games on Sunday afternoon dropping game one 22-4, and game two 15-5 playing away at Wittenberg.
GAME 1: Wittenberg got ahead early in game number one when Jack Hollinshead hit a solo home run in the top of the first inning making it 1-0.
The Tigers pulled away thanks to a Hollinshead grand slam making it 8-0 after the second frame.
Between the third and fifth innings the home side would extend their lead to 22-0.
Kyle Workman hit a three run home run in the sixth inning scoring
Jordan Mallernee and
Kyle Adams. The three run shot was the first collegiate home run for the junior infielder.
Daniel Wimsett hit an RBI groundout to score
Carter Smith in the top of the seventh inning as the Terriers fell in game one 22-4.
Daniel Quintero Jr. (0-1) took the loss for Hiram.
Tanner Griggis (2-0) picked up the win for the home side pitching six innings giving up three runs on six strikeouts.
GAME 2: The Tigers again started scoring early in game two getting four runs across the plate after two innings.
Kyle Workman kicked off the scoring for the Terriers hitting an RBI single that scored
Andrew Church making it 4-1 Tigers.
In the third inning Wittenberg scored three runs including a Tanner Boros solo home run extending the lead to 7-1.
Cole Bates hit a solo home run, a day after also hitting a home run on March 20, giving the road team another run at 7-2.
Boros would hit another long ball in the fourth inning, this time a two run blast. Wittenberg would also score another run in the fifth inning making it 12-2.
Workman,
Kyle Adams and
Evan Fairbanks would each have RBI hits in the seventh inning. Workman hit an RBI double scoring Church. Adams would then bring Workman home on an RBI single followed by Fairbanks hitting an RBI single that scored Adams.
Wittenberg would tally three more runs in the bottom of the seventh and eighth innings, winning game two 15-5.

Andrew Church and
Michael Corsillo each had multiple hits in game number two.
Ben Gustely (0-2) took the loss for Hiram.
Joe Horoszko (2-0) picked up the win for Wittenberg, going six innings while giving up two earned runs and tossing three strikeouts.
Hiram (2-6) will have a quick turnaround playing again tomorrow, Monday, March 22, with a home doubleheader against Pitt.-Greensburg starting at 1 p.m.
