Hiram Men’s Lacrosse Drops Home Opener to La Roche

HIRAM, Ohio - March 17, 2021 Hiram College men's lacrosse fell to the La Roche University RedHawks, 10-3, in their 2021 home opener at Charles A. Henry Field on Wednesday evening.
 
Brent Burkhouse got the scoring started for the RedHawks, finding the back of the net with 6:45 remaining in the first quarter. And just over a minute and a half later in the quarter, Austen Lunt made it 2-0, scoring another unassisted goal for La Roche.
 
Trevor Flugum got the Terriers on the scoreboard with 3:32 left in the first quarter, scoring Hiram's lone goal of the first half, up a man and off an assist from Ethan Mayer to cut La Roche's lead to 2-1.
 
Hiram trailed by just one, 2-1, heading into the second quarter, before the RedHawks scored six unanswered over the next two periods to extend their lead to 8-1.
 
Burkhouse made it 9-1 with an unassisted goal to start the fourth, before Mayer found the back of the net himself, cutting La Roche's lead to 9-2.
 
However, Devin Wolford has an answer for the RedHawks, scoring a goal off an assist from Isaiah Hubbard with 4:00 to play to put La Roche up 10-2.
 
Dom Medina then provided the final goal of the night for the Terriers, notching an unassisted goal with 3:19 remaining to cut the deficit to 10-3.
 
With the loss, Hiram drops to 0-1 on the year, while La Roche moves to 1-0 with the victory.
 
Mayer led the Terriers with one shot, one assists and eight shots, while Chris Biddy tallied a team-high four ground balls. Markus Johnson led the Terriers in face-offs, going 6-fo-8.
 
In goal for Hiram, Jack Lubinski made 10 saves but took the loss, while La Roche's Chris Sylvis earned the win, making nine saves.
 
The Terriers will look to bounce back on Saturday, March 27 when they host Mt. St. Joseph in another non-conference matchup at 1:00 p.m. at Charles A. Henry Field.
