Hiram Drops Overtime Thriller Against Ohio Wesleyan

Hiram, OHIO – March 14, 2021 – Hiram men's basketball fell in an overtime thriller to Ohio Wesleyan, 84-82, on Sunday inside Price Gymnasium.

It was a back and forth first half between the Terriers and the Battling Bishops. Max Johnson hit a jump shot to give the Terriers a 13-10 lead with 12:05 remaining.

Texan Moutlon would even the game back up at 16 after knocking down a free throw with 7:43 remaining in the first half.

Doug Sartain hit back to back three point shots down the stretch of the first half giving the Terriers a 24-22 lead. Closing out the first half Nassiem Salem knocked down a three-point shot making the Hiram lead 30-26.

OWU would go on a 5-0 run to end the first half to take the lead at the break at 31-30.

The contest continued to be a tight one to start the second half. Kevin Beans Jr. made a layup with 15:08 on the clock giving the Terriers the slight 43-42 lead.

The Battling Bishops would then go on a 10-0 run that concluded with Grant Spicer hitting a layup with 9:18 remaining giving OWU a 57-47 lead.

Hiram and Ohio Wesleyan would slug it out to end regulation. Both teams traded three point shots with Kevin Beans Jr. knocking one down for the home side and Jack Clement for the visitors at the 2:14 mark.

With less than a minute remaining Brodgie Gordon headed to the free throw line knocking down one free throw tying the game at 72. Gordon would miss the second free throw leading to Grant Spicer hitting a jumper to put OWU ahead at 74-72. Gordon would send the game into overtime however, knocking down a jump shot with six seconds left making it 74-74.

Heading into overtime the Battling Bishops took a four-point lead with Grant Spicer knocking down a three point shot giving OWU an 80-76 lead. The four-point lead would continue until Beans Jr. knocked down two free throws shortening the OWU lead to 82-80.

Gordon proceeded to tie the game on a jump shot with 15 seconds remaining tying it at 82. Jack Clement's buzzer beating jump shot would be the difference as Ohio Wesleyan won 84-82 in overtime. 

Beans Jr. led the Terriers in the scoring department with 22. Sartain finished with 14 points and Gordon and Oliver Clingain each added 12.

Hiram's next game will be against an opponent that is yet to be determined on March 19 at 5 p.m. inside Price Gymnasium.
