Greensburg, Pa. – March 10, 2021 – Hiram Terriers baseball won twice against Pitt.-Greensburg, 6-2 and 16-12, on Wednesday picking up two wins in the season opener. The Terriers start the year off 2-0 while Pitt.-Greensburg falls to 0-4.
GAME 1: The Terriers got off to a hot start at the plate in the top of the first inning with
Kyle Adams singling up the middle on the first pitch of the game. Two batters later,
Curtis Caithaml hit an RBI single scoring Adams. The next batter,
David Paus, singled putting two on for
Devin Houdeshell. Houdeshell hit a three run home run extending the Hiram lead to 4-0.
Robert James got the start for the Terriers pitching three innings of shutout baseball to start the contest. The right hander struck out the side in the bottom of the second inning.
The Bobcats got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth inning scoring two runs. Chandler Goodwin and Dylan DeRoss each had two RBI singles for the home squad.
Hiram would add onto the lead in the top of the fifth inning bringing two more runs across the plate.
David Paus led off the inning with a single down the left field line.
Parker Emerine hit a two out RBI single scoring Paus and giving the Terriers a 5-2 lead.
Cody Wilson picked up a single, followed by a
Michael Corsillo two out RBI single to make it 6-2.
Freshman
Jacob Kocuba made his collegiate debut tossing two shutout innings allowing just one hit.
Robert James (1-0) picked up the win for the Terriers, pitching five innings while giving up two runs on six hits with six strikeouts. Joey Fracek (0-1) took the loss for the Bobcats.
At the plate
Kyle Adams went 2-5 with a run scored.
Curtis Caithaml went 2-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
David Paus added another multi-hit game for the Terriers going 2-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Devin Houdeshell went 2-4 at the plate with a run scored and three RBIs including the first inning three run home run. The home run was the first career blast for Houdeshell.
Michael Corsillo batted 2-3 with an RBI and a walk.
GAME 2: Hiram once again got off to quick start scoring eight runs in the top of the first inning.
Kyle Adams again started the game off with a leadoff single. The next two batters,
Chaisson Marrs and
Curtis Caithaml, reached on errors which led to Adams scoring. In his first at bat as a Terrier,
Evan Fairbanks hit a two run double scoring Marrs and Caithaml.
Cody Wilson brought in Fairbanks on a sacrifice fly making it 4-0.
Andrew Church scored on a throwing error followed by
Michael Corsillo hitting an RBI single scoring
Cole Bates. In his second at bat of the inning, Marrs hit a two run double scoring both Adams and Corsillo.
Stephen Javorek took the mound for the Terriers in game two and pitched four innings of work giving up two runs while striking out two.
The Bobcats took one back in the bottom of the third with Brody Bonadio hitting an RBI groundout.
Hiram and Pitt.-Greensburg traded blows in the fourth inning with
Evan Fairbanks hitting a two run home run scoring
Fred Wright.
Cody Wilson added on with an RBI single making it 11-1 Terriers. The home side would add on two runs on two RBI singles by Jordan Cavanaugh and Randy Hubbard.
In the fifth inning
Cole Bates got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded netting an RBI scoring
Fred Wright.
Daniel Wimsett added on with a two run single scoring
Andrew Church and
Evan Fairbanks.
Jace Cappellini brought back two for the Bobcats with an RBI double in the bottom half of the inning, making it 14-4.
Freshman
Camden Kane hit an RBI single in the seventh inning scoring
Jordan Mallernee. Another freshman,
Carter Smith, reached out a fielder's choice scoring
Carson Booterbaugh making the score 16-4.
Pitt.-Greensburgh threatened in the bottom of the seventh, scoring eight runs, but wouldn't complete the comeback falling to the Terriers by a score of 16-12.
Stephen Javorek (1-0) picked up the win for the Terriers while Mikey Sullivan (0-1) took the loss for the Bobcats.
Also making appearances out of the bullpen for Hiram were

John Lusnek.
Evan Fairbanks went 2-4 with a home run and three RBIs while scoring three runs.
Cody Wilson went 2-2 at the plate with two RBIs.
Daniel Wimsett went 1-3 with two RBIs and a walk.
The Terriers will continue their early season road trip playing at Case Western Reserve on Saturday, March 13 with a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
