GRANVILLE, Ohio – December 8, 2021 –
Oliver Clingain and
Kevin Beans Jr. each reached the double-figure mark in a loss at Denison Wednesday night, as Hiram fell 82-57.
Both teams stayed within one basket of each other coming out of the gate as
Joe Ayo tied the contest at six just over three minutes in.
Denison, however, slowly began to chip away with the lead. Kevin Cheng made a layup putting the Big Red up 14-8 with 12:06 remaining in the first half.
The Terriers stayed locked in after the slight Denison run, with Clingain knocking down a three-point shot with the score now 18-17 down the stretch of the first half.
A 13-0 run from the home team however pushed the Big Red to a 36-21 lead as Scott Dean drilled a three with Denison looking to keep the lead heading into the halftime break.
Kevin Beans Jr. finished the scoring for Hiram heading into halftime scoring the final four points as the Terriers trailed 42-34.
Going into the second half, the Terriers looked to keep things within striking distance early. After two free throws from
Tyler McMillion, the Big Red pulled away with a 16-0 run in the middle portion of the second half.
In the final minutes of the contest, Denison continued their lead as
Max Johnson and
Isiah Taborn closed out the scoring for the road team.
Along with his 11 points, Clingain also had five rebounds and one assist. Beans Jr. also had four rebounds with a team-high three steals.
Tyler McMillion led the team in rebounds with six as the big man also collected six points.
Darren Rubin and Freeman Brou led the way for the Big Red scoring 17.
As a team, Hiram shot 34.8% from the floor and 33.3% from the three-point line. Denison finished the night shooting 49.3% from the floor and 36.0% from long distance.
Hiram falls to 2-6 on the season and 0-3 in North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) play.
The Terriers next hit the hardwood against another foe in Wooster as the team travels to play the Fighting Scots on Saturday, Dec. 11 at 6 p.m.
