WOOSTER, Ohio – December 11, 2021 – Hiram men's basketball dropped a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) game at Wooster, falling 82-53 Saturday night.
Wooster started the game off on an explosive run going up 23-0 just under six minutes into the contest.
As the middle portion of the first half continued, Hiram looked to chip away at the deficit.
Spencer Willman and
Kevin Beans Jr. made back-to-back three-point shots as the Terriers trailed 35-14 at the 7:04 mark.
As the first half started to wind down,
Sherman Cox drilled a three-point shot, followed by
Ishmaaeel Hayes-Muhammad making a layup as the Fighting Scots offense momentarily stalled.
Taylor McNeal sunk two free throws to close out the first half as the home side took a 41-23 lead heading into the break.
Tyler McMillion secured the first bucket for the Terriers of the second half with a dunk, as Wooster led 46-25.
After
Oliver Clingain made a jump shot, the Fighting Scots continued on with the lead as the home team answered and pulled away scoring ten straight points.
Carter Warstler scored the final points of the game for Wooster as the Fighting Scots went on to win 82-51.
Willman led the squad with nine points to go along with two steals. Cox, McMillian and Clingain scored six each as Clingain also led Hiram in rebounds with seven.
Brandon Styers scored a team leading 24 points for the Fighting Scots.
As a team, Wooster shot 49.1% from the floor with a 40.0% three-point percentage. Hiram had a field goal percentage of 30.8% and 32.0% from long distance.
The Terriers fall to 2-7 on the year and 0-4 in NCAC play.
Hiram will next hit the court in a road contest at La Roche on Friday, Dec. 17 with a tip-off time scheduled for 7 p.m.
