Hiram Men's Basketball Tops Pitt-Bradford in High-Scoring Affair

BRADFORD, Pa. – January 4, 2022 – Hiram men's basketball defeated Pitt-Bradford 95-86 in a non-conference game on Monday night. Brodgie Gordon led the way with 26 points as the Terriers' 95 points is a season-high.

Early in the contest, Gordon started the scoring for the Terriers picking up the first seven points about four minutes into the game.

Over the next few minutes, the home side created a slight lead as Nathan Schneider put Pitt-Bradford up 18-9 with a layup with 11:50 left in the first half.

A 10-0 run from the Terriers put Hiram right back into the contest. After going down 26-16, the road team clawed back. Chance Wells made a layup along with a three, followed by Kevin Beans Jr. scoring a layup and Doug Sartain making a three of his own.

As the first half came to a close, the deficit was erased with a 38-33 halftime lead after an Oliver Clingain layup.

The Terriers came out hot after the halftime break, storming out to a 53-38 lead less than five minutes into the second half. Hiram saw their lead get to as big as 16 after Chance Wells knocked down a three-point shot with 14:22 left in regulation as Hiram led 58-42.

Down the stretch of the second half, the Hiram lead held firm. Doug Sartain knocked down a three-ball with 7:36 left as the Terriers led 71-57.

Alex Rodriguez hit a three for Pitt-Bradford as the lead was momentarily cut to single digits. While the Panthers looked to make a move late, free throw shooting from the Terriers helped Hiram prevail. In the final minute, Gordon knocked down four free throws and Beans Jr. two, as Hiram won 95-86.

"I was really proud with our guys' effort despite being down five players," Head Coach Taylor Roth said. "We have talked a lot lately about trust and unselfishness and it was great to see us put those things into practice tonight offensively."

On the night, Hiram shot 50.0% from the field and 32.1% from beyond the arc.

Six different Terriers reached double figures in the victory. Gordon's 26 points were a season-high, which included going eight-of-nine from the free throw line. Beans Jr. finished with 17, Clingain 14 and Sartain 13. Chance Wels finished with 11 and Spencer Willman had ten.

With the victory, Hiram is now 3-7 on the season as the team is close to wrapping up non-conference play.

Hiram opens North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) play on Wednesday, Jan. 5 hosting Ohio Wesleyan with tip-off scheduled for 6 p.m.
