Feb.23-BUFFALO, New York- The Hiram College men's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches against Medaille College and D'Youville College, Saturday afternoon.  

In the opening match, the Terriers fell in straight sets to the Mavericks before falling 3-2 to the Spartans. 

In the matchup with the host D'Youville, the two teams would need the fifth set to decide a winner, with the Spartans taking sets one (25-20) four (25-19) and five (15-8), while the Terriers earned set wins in two (25-17) and three (25-22). 

Already trailing by one set, the Terriers found themselves up 8-6 in set number two, Hiram continued to turn the tide of the match with an 8-1 run with two service aces from Tom Supan and kills from Justin English and Andrew Gard (15-7). 

From there the Terriers continued to dominate never trailing eventually finishing the set with a pair of kills from Kilvio Montero and Cory Fischer (25-17).  

The third set would be played more closely between the Spartans and Terriers seeing 11 ties. Knotting the score at a final 19-19 Hiram would capitalize off of two D'Youville errors to take the lead (21-19). 

A Terrier attack error would put the host back in the game before Gard would use back-to-back kills to put Hiam up by three (23-20).   

From there the Terriers used a Spartan error and a Montero kill to finish off the third set (25-22).  

Leading by two sets Hiram would keep the momentum going entering the fourth set up by four (11-7).  

D'Youville rattled off five kills led by Anthony Dean to take the lead (12-11). The Terriers would knot the game at 12-12 and 13-13 before the Spartans would take advantage of a couple of miscues by Hiram outscoring the Terriers 12-6 in the remainder of the set.  

Following a 25-19 loss in the fourth, the Terriers looked to rebound in the critical fifth set. 

Jake Lininger opened up the last set with an ace and a Spartan error to give Hiram a 2-0 start.  

From there Hiram would never lead again with the host outscoring Hiram by seven (15-8).  

Montero led the Terriers offensively, tallying 11 kills. Fischer added 10, while Gard and Supan finished with six kills apiece.  

Hiram will be back in action on Saturday, March 2 as they take on Thiel (Pa.) and Penn St.-Behrend (Pa.).
