HIRAM, Ohio -- Junior Katelyn Mauch (Parma, Ohio/Normady) scored her fifth goal of the season, but the Hiram College women's soccer team fell to Otterbein by a 2-1 score on Wednesday night.
The Terriers see their record fall to 3-7-0 on the season, while the Cardinals improve to 4-4-0.
Mauch put Hiram up early with a goal 6:13 into the match. Junior Kristen Verel (Aurora, Ohio) rocketed a shot that was blocked by the Cardinal defense and Mauch was able to chorale the loose ball and find the back of the net to give the Terriers the 1-0 lead.
Junior Allie Glatt (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) nearly gave Hiram a 2-0 lead with a header that clunked off the crossbar in the 27th minute.
Hiram would take that 1-0 lead into the half.
In the second peroid, Otterbein would tie the game when Madison Burchfield converted a header off of a corner kick in the 60th minute.
Burchfield would then give the Cardinals the lead at the 79:50 mark, converting on a breakaway goal.
Senior Kailie Reed (Wadsworth, Ohio) posted a scoreless first half in goal and made three saves. Sophomore Alina Mille (Medina, Ohio) made one save and suffered her second loss of the season.
Otterbein held a 17-12 advantage in shots, including a slim 6-5 margin in shots on goal. The Cardinals also had a 13-4 edge in corner kicks.
Hiram will be at it next on Saturday with a road NCAC clash at No. 8-ranked Denison at noon.
