Football drops NCAC road contest to No. 8 Wabash (Ind.)

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. -- The Hiram College football team fell to No. 8-ranked Wabash (Ind.) by a 38-0 score on Saturday afternoon.

The Terriers are now 0-4 on the season and 0-3 in the NCAC, while the Little Giants remain perfect on the season at 4-0 and 3-0 in conference.

Senior Nate Eaton (South Euclid, Ohio/Walnut Ridge) led the Hiram offensive attack, catching eight passes for 66 yards. Sophomore quarterback Alec Wells (Aurora, Ohio) threw for 70 yards and junior Danny Robinson (Labelle, Fla.) rushed for 34.

Junior Kyle Burchett (Fairport Harbor, Ohio/Harding) recorded 13 tackles and senior D.D. Fleetion (Youngstown, Ohio/Youngstown East) had 12.

The Little Giants took the opening drive right down the field and punched it in to take an early 7-0 lead.

Hiram would go three and out on its first possession, but the Terrier defense was able to make a stop on Wabash's ensuing possession.

The Terriers mounted a drive of their own on their second possession, with Wells completing a pass to Robinson for a key 22-yard gain.

Hiram continued the drive and was faced with a fourth and one on the Wabash four yardline. Robinson took the handoff on the play and was stopped by the Little Giant defense, forcing a turnover on downs.

In the second quarter, Wabash's Connor Rice would throw a 13-yard touchdown and added a 3-yard score to give the Little Giants a 21-0 lead at the break.

Wabash added a field goal and a 7-yard touchdown run by Mason Zurek in the third quarter and also got a 21-yard touchdown run from Shamir Johnson to in the fourth to close out the scoring.

Zurek ran for 156 yards and Drake Christen had 119 yards receiving and a touchdown to pace the Little Giants on offense.

Wabash outgained Hiram 463-137 in the game.

The Terriers will play again on October 10, when they travel to take on undefeated Denison at 7 p.m.
