HIRAM, OHIO -- The Hiram College women's soccer team fell to Allegheny (Pa.) by a 1-0 score on Wednesday evening at Henry Field.
The Terriers see their record drop to 5-10-1 overall and 0-5-1 in NCAC play. The Gators improve to 11-5-0, 4-1-0.
Allegheny was able to get on the board 32:49 into the match on Hanna Zangara's third goal of the season.
In the second half, Hiram had free kicks taken by sophomores Allie Glatt (Cincinnat/Seton) and Kaitlin Zemanski (Munroe Falls/Stow-Munroe Falls) that went through the box, but could not find the back of the net.
In the 77th minute, senior Kelsey Martin (Austintown/Fitch) sent a ball through the defense to sophomore Emily Syrjala (Seattle, Wash./Seattle Prep) who was streaking towards the net. Syrjala tried to beat a drawn out goalkeeper, but her attempt was saved.
Hiram's last efforts in the closing minutes were denied by the Gators defense.
Sophomore Abbey Rowe (Mt. Orab/Lynchburg-Clay), Glatt and Syrjala all took two shots in the contest for Hiram.
Junior goalkeeper Kailie Reed (Wadsworth) made seven saves and falls to 5-10-1 on the season.
The Gators held a 16-7 advantage in shots and a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
Hiram will return to action on Saturday, when it plays a road contest at Kenyon beginning at 1 p.m.
