Late Goal Results in Double Overtime Tie for Women's Soccer Against Wooster

Box Score

WOOSTER, OHIO  --  All-North Coast Athletic Conference junior Kelsey Martin (Austintown/Fitch) scored a late goal that later led to a 1-1 double overtime tie for the Hiram College women's soccer team against The College of Wooster in conference play at Charles A. Henry Field.

The tie also marks the first non-loss for the Terriers against the Fighting Scots who now own a 14-0-1 series record.  After a scoreless first half, Wooster (7-5-2, 2-1-1 NCAC) broke the stalemate with a goal at the 51:37 minute mark from Kennedy Payne to put the Scots up, 1-0.  Wooster looked to be headed to victory when a shot by Hiram (8-4-1, 1-2-1 NCAC) freshman Robynn McGroarty (Oakville, Ontario/Loyola Catholic) was stopped by the Scot goalkeeper, but not controled, which allowed Martin to get the rebound past the netminder to even the score at 1-1.  The Martin goal came in the final minutes of the game to send the contest into overtime.

Both teams recorded a pair of shots in the first overtime period, but neither squad could net the game-winner, forcing a second overtime.  After the final 10 minutes, Hiram recorded the only shot taken, but the score remained even at a goal apiece, resulting in the 1-1 tie.

In goal for Hiram, sophomore Kailie Reed (Wadsworth) started the game and played all 110 minutes.  She allowed the lone goal and made two saves.

Hiram will host Wittenberg University on Saturday, Oct. 19 in a NCAC game at Henry Field.  The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
