With the loss, the Terriers drop to 3-3 overall and 0-1 in the NCAC. The Tigers improve to 4-4 overall and 2-0 NCAC.
Hiram scored the first goal of the game off the foot of junior midfielder Ernestina Zappa (Brooklyn/Laurel) at the 5:43 minute mark of the opening half. The lone goal was the only scoring in the first half and the Terriers would take a 1-0 margin into the intermission.
In the second half, the DePauw offense found its stride scoring three goals, including a pair of scores from Angela Cotherman. Cotherman's first goal came during the 53rd minute and evened the contest at a goal apiece. She would also tally the next goal, and eventual game-winner, at the 73:32 mark to give the Tigers a 2-1 advantage. DePauw's Alex Ehr added an insurance goal during the 85th minute to seal the victory for the Tigers with the final score of 3-1.
In goal for Hiram, junior Kate Valaitis (Lewis Center/Olentangy) played all 90 minutes, but would suffer the loss and is now 2-2 overall for the season. She allowed three goals and made 12 saves.
Hiram will travel to Tiffin for a non-conference game against Heidelberg University on Tuesday, Sept. 27. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
