Rod Thompson

Thompson enters his ninth year as a volunteer assistant coach with the Hiram men's and women's swimming & diving program in 2023-24, having re-joining the Terriers following his retirement in 2014.

A 1963 graduate of Hiram College, Thompson was on Hiram’s very first swimming team under Coach Bill Donaldson in 1959. Over his four years with the Terriers, Thompson, a four-year team captain, was named Hiram's Most Valuable Swimmer three times, and at one time held team and/or Alumni Memorial Pool records in the 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly, 200-yard individual medley, and the 200-yard medley relay. Thompson was inducted into the William H. Hollinger Athletic Hall of Fame in 2015.

Following his graduation from Hiram, Thompson swam in several Masters meets before going to the Lexington Theological Seminary. In his first years of ministry in the Panama Canal Zone, Thompson coached the Balboa High School swim team to two undefeated seasons. During his 15 years in radio, Thompson has coached summer age-group swim teams, including coaching a world record 50-mile relay.
