HIRAM, Ohio – September 5, 2026 - Hiram women's volleyball sailed through Day 2 of the Great Lakes Crossover hosted by Heidelberg University in Tiffin, OH. The Terriers swept Adrian: 25-21, 25-16, 25-15 before taking down Kalamazoo in straight sets: 26-24, 25-23, 25-19.

The Terriers had several student-athletes step up in different sets – demonstrating the depth of the roster.   

The opening set of the day featured back and forth play - with the set knotted at 18-18, Hiram rattled off five straight points to take a 23-18 lead. Ultimately winning the set 25-21. The run was featured by Megan Chiang who earned the Terriers two of those points with a kill and ace.  

Senior Maggie Riley recorded six of her nine kills in the second set to lead the Terriers to a 25-16 win in the frame. Riley came out swinging early in the set with three straight kills to take a 5-1 lead.  

Adrian fought back later in the set to cut the Terriers lead to 12-11. Hiram responded with a 6-2 run, creating enough space to comfortably win the set. Rebecca Volpe was responsible for two kills in that run. The freshman finished the match with six kills and a .625 hitting percentage. Perhaps the most impressive statistics, Volpe recorded four total blocks and is now up to eight blocks on the season.  

Sofia Smotek, who led the team in kills with 13, and Chiang (12 kills) took control in the final set of the match. The sophomore standouts combined for 10 kills with Chiang rattling off five kills to open the Terriers lead to 9-3.  

Hiram cruised by Adrian the rest of the way to earn its second sweep of the season.  

Kalamazoo 

Hiram was battle tested early on as the Hornets got out to a 6-2 lead. Hiram chipped away at the lead, finding themselves down 18-17. Smotek took matters into her own hands – rattling off three straight kills to take a 21-17 lead. Smotek once again led the Terriers with 17 kills.  

Hiram held on – winning the set off an ace from Riley. Riley led the team with three aces and tallied five kills in the opening frame.  

Set two followed the nature of the first set as neither team stayed in control. The largest lead came from the Terriers as they led 18-13. Kalamazoo scored four unanswered points to keep it close. Hiram scored the final three points of the set to go up 2 sets.  

The Terriers had a game-high 17 kills in the final set – led by Smotek with 7.  

Jacey English and Chiang had 20+ digs each while Courtney Johnson and Mia Nelson both recorded double-digit assists.

Hiram will travel to Marietta, OH to take on the Pioneers of Marietta College on September 8th at 7 p.m.
