Hiram Earns Walk-Off Win In Game 1, Splits Doubleheader vs Marietta

Terriers Wrap Regular Season At Home

HIRAM, Ohio – April 28, 2026 - Hiram wrapped up its final home games of the regular season at Myrtis E. Herndon on Tuesday evening, splitting a doubleheader against Marietta College. Hiram won in walk-off fashion in Game 1, 6-5, before falling 9-7 in Game 2.

Game 1 Recap

Hiram never led until the final play of the game - as three runs in the seventh inning resulted in a 6-5 victory.

Marietta led 2-0 through five innings of play. Starting pitcher Yasmine Clark came up clutch in the third with two runners in scoring position; the right-hander struck out back-to-back batters to limit the damage and keep her team within striking distance.

Hiram's bats came alive in the fifth with three hits in the inning - Megan Moser doubled to left center and Daynna Mekaru singled up the middle to knot the game at 2-2.

Heading into the seventh inning, Hiram found themselves down 5-3. Mekaru fueled the comeback with a double to put two runners in scoring position. Tristen Gonzalez scored from third on a passed ball moments before Hannah Schimmoeller came up with the best hit of the day with an RBI triple to center field.

The first-year's RBI tied the game – putting the winning run on third base. Lola Thomas came to the plate and smashed a ball right past the third basemen's glove to walk-off the game.

Schimmoeller, Mekaru and Hannah Marlow accounted for six of Hiram's 10 hits. Avery Contini earned the win in the circle – pitching the last three innings to support a Terriers comeback.

Game 2 Recap

Game 2 was just as theatrical as the first, as Hiram had a season-high 15 hits.

Mekaru continued her hot day at the plate with a single through the left side to load the bases. Schimmoeller stepped into the box and went opposite field for an RBI single to take a 1-0 lead through one inning.

Schimmoeller did not stop there - she added three more hits and two RBI throughout the game. The standout freshman is now batting a team-high .369 for the season; in her last ten games, she is batting .454 with 15 hits.

In the third inning, Schimmoeller hit her second triple of the day to cut the Pioneer lead to one. Schimmoeller now has six triples on the season, which is the second-most in the PAC.

Hiram then knotted the game at 4-4, as Schimmoeller scored off an Emrie Fink groundout. Marietta responded with four runs in the fourth inning to retake an 8-4 lead.

Once again, Hiram responded with three runs of its own in the fifth. Mekaru and Schimmoeller both singled to start the inning – Fink singled to right field to score Mekaru. Thomas followed with a sacrifice bunt to knock Schimmoeller in – advancing to third on the play was Fink. Haven Papineau rounded out the scoring outburst with an RBI single to cut the Pioneer lead to one.

Down to its final three outs, Hiram was again down two runs. The Terriers loaded the bases with a hit by pitch and two infield hits. Kayla Prigge made her way to the plate with no outs – she sent a hard-hit line drive to the third basemen, who made a bang-bang double play to retire Prigge and the base runner on third.

While that play changed the momentum of the game, the Terriers fought back the entire day and showed the importance of every game as they get ready to compete in the PAC Tournament. The doubleheader against a 21-win Marietta team was a great test and tune-up to close out the 2026 regular season.
