Terriers Drop Marathon Battle To Geneva In 10th Inning

Resumption Of April 6 Game Ends In Hard-Fought Loss

HIRAM, Ohio – April 14, 2026 - The Hiram College softball team dropped an extra-inning conference game against Geneva College on Tuesday afternoon, falling in the tenth inning, 5-4, at Bill and Rita Conrady Softball Field.

After rain washed away the original start date of April 6, the two teams met again on Tuesday in hopes of completing Game 1 and finishing Game 2. Game 1 was originally suspended in the fourth inning due to weather, forcing the teams to reschedule, with the Terriers still being the home team but Geneva hosting both the resumed Game 1 and the full Game 2.

Game 1 opened up on Tuesday with a rain delay. The game was eventually completed, but at the cost of running out of daylight for Game 2. The final game between the two teams was postponed and a make-up date is still to be determined.

Game 1 Recap

In Game 1, Yasmine Clark got the start and tossed 10 innings. She allowed five runs, four of which were earned, on seven hits while striking out four. Offensively for the Terriers, Haven Papineau went 1-for-4 with two RBI, Daynna Mekaru went 1-for-2 with two walks.

Hiram did all its damage in the second inning, scoring all four runs in that frame. The first five batters reached base, with Papineau taking advantage of a bases loaded situation. The junior singled in two runs off a base knock to right field. Em\rie Fink and Papineau both crossed the plate on wild pitches.

Geneva knotted the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the third inning.

The game went scoreless after that until the tenth inning. Clark handled the Golden Tornados in order in the fourth, fifth, eighth, and ninth innings. A sac-fly in the top of the tenth was all Geneva needed to carve out a one-run advantage. The Terriers had runners on the corners for a walk-off opportunity but could not capitalize before the final out was recorded.

What's Next

Hiram will return home to host the Washington & Jefferson Presidents for a doubleheader at Myrtis E. Herndon Field on Thursday. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
