Terriers Earn Victory In Back-And-Forth Game Against Chatham

Hiram Makes Late Comeback Attempt To Win 12-9

HIRAM, Ohio - April 14, 2026 - Hiram baseball hung on for a huge conference victory on Tuesday afternoon at Fishel Field, as three runs in the eighth inning were enough for a 12-9 victory over Chatham.

The Terriers led through the first two innings, 8-0, but the Cougars fought their way back and eventually took the lead, 9-8, in the seventh inning. Highlighting the fury of offense between both teams was a pair of grand slams; Hiram's John Bender lifted his third home run over his last five games, while Chatham's Angelo DeLeonardis blasted a grand slam of his own.

Hiram answered right back in the home half of the seventh, with Ben Yoder delivering a game-tying RBI single. Both Yoder and Kian Drummonds, the bottom-two hitters in the Terriers lineup, combined for five hits and four RBI in the contest.

The game then entered a rain delay for an hour, as the Terriers had to prepare for the eighth inning for over an hour.

Cody Horvath then entered the eighth inning, trying to keep the game tied. Horvath proceeded to throw two scoreless innings without giving up a single hit and shutting the Cougars down.  In the bottom half of the eighth, the Terriers managed to load the bases, threatening to take the lead.

Walter Argrett then stepped up, pinch hitting for Brady Trem. Argrett managed to smack a single up the middle in his first collegiate at-bat, scoring two runs to give his team an 11-9 lead. The Terriers added on one more in the eighth, when Drummonds singled to score Andrew Fawver and push the lead to three, where the Terriers would hold on to earn their sixth PAC win.

Game 2 of the doubleheader was postponed due to rain, with the makeup scheduled for Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in Pittsburgh (Hiram will still be the home team).
