Terriers Drop Doubleheader Against Allegheny

Hiram Falls In Hard Fought Effort 4-3 And 9-3

Meadville, PA – March 24, 2026 - The Hiram Terrier baseball team traveled to Meadville, PA Tuesday afternoon for a doubleheader matchup with the Allegheny College Gators. The Terriers fought hard, but eventually fell to the Gators with scores of 4-3 in 11 innings and 9-3.

Game 1 Recap

Game one started out as a pitching duel, with neither team gaining a clear advantage over the other. The Gators would strike first, though, jumping out by two runs to gain an early 2-0 lead. The Terriers got on the board in the seventh inning, when Luke Snider hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Brady Isgro and cutting the deficit to just one run.

Hiram took the lead in the eighth, when Andrew Fawver blasted his first career homer to right field, scoring Drew Mason and giving Hiram the lead late in the game. Allegheny would respond in the bottom half of the eigth, tying the game up and sending the ballgame into extra innings.

The Gators would end up walking the game off in the bottom of the 11th, but not without a hard-fought effort from the Terriers.

On the pitching side, Tyler Leasure was impressive in his start against the Gators, throwing 5 innings and 112 pitches with 5 Ks and only one earned run. The freshman has already been a force on the mound for the Terriers this season. Coming in relief of Leasure was Andrew Pawley, who did not allow a hit and threw 2 Ks in his two innings of work, and also Cody Horvath, who threw three innings of impressive work, with 2 Ks on 53 pitches.

Game 2 Recap

The Terriers found themselves down in the second game as well, needing to spark a comeback attempt to split the series against the Gators. The Terriers got on the board in the fifth, when Logan Gallentine blasted a solo shot to left field to get the Terriers on the board while also cutting the deficit to five runs.

Hiram continued with the offense in the seventh, when Ethan Ryan hit a sac fly to right field, scoring Justin Yarber Jr. from third to make it 6-2. One play later, Isgro hit a sac fly to center field, scoring Gallentine, and cutting the deficit to three. But, the Gators would respond in the bottom half of the inning, scoring three more insurance runs while securing a victory.

On the pitching side, Shea Sievers started out the game for Hiram, throwing three innings and recording 2 Ks. Caleb Shreve then came in and also threw three innings, also throwing 2 Ks and not surrendering an earned run. Timothy Johnson closed the game out on the pitching side for the Terriers, throwing 29 pitches and allowing one hit during his innings of work.

What's Next

The Terriers will be back in action on Thursday, when they travel to Greensburg, PA for a matchup with Pitt-Greensburg, with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m.
