Steiner Shines in Loss to Hilbert

First-Years Record 1st Career Goals, Steiner Records 1st Multi-Goal Game Despite Loss

HIRAM, Ohio - March 18, 2026 -  A fast start was not enough to propel the Hiram College women's lacrosse team, as they dropped a 12-5 decision against Hilbert College on Wednesday late afternoon at Henry Field.

The first period recorded back-and-forth action, as both teams tallied two goals. The Terriers first goal came less than four minutes into the match from Kasey Kelhoffer's first career goal. Megan Dayton found the back of the net at the 1:39 mark of the first period to take a 2-1 lead. The Hawks responded with four straight goals to take a 5-2 lead into halftime.

In the opening minute of the third period, the Hawks added another goal, but a quick response from Sophie Bystrom's first career goal put the Terriers down, 6-3.

Janelle Steiner was a late game spark for the Terriers, as she recorded back-to-back goals in the final minutes of the game. It marked the first career multi-goal game of her young career. She is the first Terrier to record a multi-goal game since the program returned to action this season. Steiner also led the team in draw controls (five) throughout the 60 minutes of game time.

Among other statistical leaders were Ilyana Sterrett and Jane Clark, who both tallied five ground balls. Sterrett also added two caused turnovers.

Hiram returns to action on Saturday, when it travels to New Concord, Ohio to take on the Muskingum Fighting Muskies at 1 p.m.
