FORT MYERS, Florida - March 12, 2026 - Hiram put the game-tying and game-winning runs on base in the bottom of the ninth inning, but neither came across to score in a 4-3 loss to Haverford on Thursday afternoon at Terry Park.
It was a rematch between the two teams, as the Terriers beat the Fords on Monday in 10 innings, 9-8. The second matchup was just as even, with Haverford scoring more runs but Hiram having more hits (10-8).
Shea Sievers was stellar in his first career start, limiting the opposition to just four base hits, none of which went for extra bases. A trio of errors over the first two innings led to three unearned runs, putting Sievers in line for the tough luck loss: 6 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 0 ER, 4 BB, 7 K.
The Terriers offense had chances to help Sievers' cause, as Luke Snider roped an RBI double in the third inning and Logan Gallentine had an RBI single in the fifth inning. Hiram ultimately left nine runners stranded on base over the first six innings.
Haverford pulled ahead, 4-2, on an insurance run that came in the form of a sacrifice fly. The bullpen duo of Jimmy Rey Gonzales and Cody Horvath kept the score right there thanks to 2.2 scoreless innings of work in relief.
Hiram had runners at first and second base with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, but a flyout brought the rally to a halt and moved the Terriers' record at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic to 2-4.
The Terriers have a chance to even that record on Friday, when they play two games against Pitt Greensburg at Terry Park in Fort Myers, FL.
