PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania – January 9, 2026 – Hiram kicked off the new year with a hard-fought 13-2 loss on Friday late afternoon against the Cougars at the Alpha Ice Complex.
Hiram got on the board early in the second period, with
Tyler Arthurs scoring an unassisted goal at in the second minute, snapping a shot past the Chatham goaltender to cut the deficit to 5-1.
Keith Smilowitz added the Terriers second goal at just past the midway point of the third period, finishing a feed from
Shane Ward to provide Hiram's final tally.
In goal,
Mark Paton and
Remi DeSmith split time for the Terriers, pulling together a combination of 37 saves while facing heavy shot volume from Chatham. Paton stopped 20 of those shots with the first 30 minutes before DeSmith made 17 saves over the middle portion of the game.
Defensively, various Terriers blocked 11 shots different shots from the Cougars, with
Cole Mitchell and Ward each recording multiple blocks. Hiram put in the work in the faceoff circle, with
Ken Bagley leading the way with 13-for-22 on draws.
Terriers continue their weekend action with another road match against the Chatham Cougars on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the same venue.
