WILMINGTON, Ohio – September 6, 2025 – Hiram women's volleyball put together another strong weekend performance, taking home another pair of wins on Saturday at the Quaker Classic hosted by Wilmington College. The Terriers swept Alma in the morning with a 3-0 match before grinding out a five-set thriller against Manchester to close out the event.

The Terriers wasted little time setting the tone in this first matchup, defeating Alma in straight sets. With a consistent offensive attack and a .211 team hitting percentage, Hiram did more than enough to pave the way to a sweep.
Sofia Smotek, with 13 kills, and eight digs, along with
Megan Chiang's 12 kills and a .417 hitting percentage, powered the attack.
Riley France chipped in with seven kills and
Kelly Hoffman dished out an impressive 34 assists to run the offense.
Defensively, libero
Brooke Fishback anchored the back row with 20 digs, with
Avery Clay contributing four total blocks.
Hiram pulled away late in each set with timely runs; Chiang delivered two key kills during a 6-2 burst that closed out a 25-21 win in the first set. The second set featured five kills put up by Smotek. The sweep was finished off in the third set, when France and Chiang put together a combined six kills in the final stretch to clinch the 3-0 victory

The late afternoon match turned into a test of resilience for the Terriers, as Hiram rallied multiple times to earn a impressive 3-2 win over Manchester.
Smotek capturing her best performance yet, finishing off the evening with a career-high 23 kills and 13 digs, while Chiang added 13 kills and
Maggie Riley putting forth nine kills to keep the Terriers in the running. KHoffman orchestrated an impressive offense with 36 assists and also chipping in with five kills. Fishback once again steadied the defense with a team-high 22 digs.
The Terriers found themselves in a variety of tight spots throughout the match, but in the end delivered in the biggest moments. After dropping the first set, they saved two set points in the second before evening the match, then erasing a late deficit to take the third set, 27-25.
Though Manchester forced a decisive fifth set, Hiram held strong in the closing frame, racing out with a 8-5 lead and never trailing in the 15-13 clincher.
What's Next
The Terriers will look to return to action this coming Wednesday for their home opener in Price Gymnasium, where they'll look to continue on their winning streak again against Oberlin at 7 p.m.
