Terriers Passing Attack Has Historic Day In 58-21 Home Opener Win vs Oberlin

Hiram Ties Program Record With 6 Pass TD Behind Stellar Performance From Tejeda

HIRAM, Ohio – September 13, 2025 – Hiram tied its program record for passing touchdowns in a single game (six) as part of a 58-21 win over Oberlin on Saturday night at Henry Field, which also marked the Terriers' first victory since the end of the 2023 campaign.

Junior quarterback Sean Tejeda threw for 319 yards and five touchdowns in the commanding effort, while Ammaar Lakes added a TD pass of his own to fuel the record-setting performance through the air. Tejeda and sophomore running back Alex Barrs each ran for a touchdown to fill out the scoresheet on the offensive end. In total, Hiram had 593 yards of total offense over 78 plays (7.6 yards per play).

Defensively, Brice Criggall recorded the first two interceptions of his career and Kade Scott added his first pick, too. Nine different student-athletes recorded at least three tackles in the game.

Tejeda led Hiram's offense through the air, as 11 of Hiram's first 12 offensive plays were passing, including a 7-yard touchdown to Jordan Stapleton and a 15-yard scoring strike to Kevin Dycks. Devin Tufts also caught a 45-yard pass during that span, lifting Hiram to a 14-0 lead with 9:10 to play in the first quarter.

Oberlin answered with a touchdown of its own, but Hiram then scored 30 consecutive points to eventually grab hold of a 44-7 advantage toward the end of the third quarter. Tejeda continued to find a rhythm with his deep receiving unit, connecting with Da'Vaughn Lewis and Jalen Davis before showcasing his athleticism and taking one to the end zone himself from 35 yards out.

Dycks later caught another TD pass – giving him a team-high three TD for the season – and Alex Barrs scored his first collegiate touchdown to wrap up one of the program's best offensive performances of all-time.

In the history books, the team's 58 points ranks as the seventh-most in a single game, and its most ever in the 69-game history against Oberlin. On an individual basis, Tejeda became the third different student-athlete in program history (Randy Tucker, Domenic Paolo) to throw at least five touchdown passes in a single game. Tucker remains the only student-athlete to throw six touchdown passes in a single game, although Hiram was still able to reach that mark as a team on Saturday night.

The Terriers will return to the gridiron next Saturday, when they travel to Waynesburg, PA for the start of conference play against Waynesburg. Kickoff is slated for a 1 p.m. start at John F. Wiley Stadium.
