ADRIAN, Michigan - August 29, 2025 - A new era of Hiram women's soccer began on Friday night, as the return to full-time PAC membership started with a hard-fought, 3-1 loss to Adrian College at Docking Stadium.
The Terriers featured seven first-year/sophomore student-athletes in its starting lineup, a talented group surrounded by the leadership of Bella Simmons, Reagan Mory, Kali Baker and Becca Devericks. That lineup collectively kept Hiram in the match against a team that won by four goals in the previous contest between the two teams last September.
Baker was responsible for Hiram's first goal of the campaign, knocking one through off a free kick in the 90th minute. It marked the third career goal for the North Ridgeville, OH native, who scored from nearly 90 feet away from the goal with a high-arcing shot that was perfectly placed through the top-right corner of the net.
Although the match was all but decided at that point, Baker's goal still sparked a celebration at midfield, as multiple Terriers swarmed their teammate in jubilation. Baker previously scored twice in October 2023 during her first collegiate season.
Madie Kennedy tallied five saves as the starting goalkeeper, while the defensive duo of Brianna Weber and Devericks played all 90 minutes of the match. Also on offense, Jada Neal and Vanessa Anthony each recorded their first collegiate shot attempts in the 49th and 67th minutes respectively.
For Adrian, Teagan Bergeron scored in the 21st minute and Annamarie Fosmoen found the back of the net off an Alanna Earl assist in the 59th minute. Delaney Batur capped the scoring with a goal toward the center of the net in the 72nd minute.
Despite the loss, Hiram will have a great chance to bounce back next Wednesday, when it travels to New Concord, OH for a non-conference battle with Muskingum at 7 p.m. The Terriers narrowly lost, 2-1, in their last match against the Fighting Muskies on September 4, 2024.
