Greene Works 10 Innings Without Allowing ER In DH Split vs Kenyon

Terriers Get Last Tune-Up Before NCAC Tournament On Sunday

GRANVILLE, Ohio – May 4, 2025 – The Hiram softball team ended the regular season on a high note, as it won the longest game of the season (10 innings) against Kenyon, 4-2, on Sunday afternoon. Both games were played at Denison Softball Field to account for the rainy weather in Gambier, OH, where Kenyon hosts its traditional home games.

Hiram fell in Game 1, 7-6, which saw the Owls rally back after the Terriers scored the first six runs of the game. Daynna Mekaru, Angel Santellan, Hannah Marlow and Haven Papineau each had multi-hit performances in the game, with Papineau's three RBI marking a new career-high.

Kenyon got five hits and six RBI from the first three hitters in its batting lineup to come-from-behind and take the first game of the doubleheader.

In Game 2, Hiram persevered through a 10-inning game, which marked the longest game for the program since a 12-inning affair against DePauw on April 28, 2024. First-year Lillie Greene was again in midseason form, working a career-long 10 innings and surrendering only a pair of RBI singles in the fourth and fifth innings. Both of those runs were unearned, giving Greene a dominant final line of 10 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K.

Kenyon's Kylie Hamm matched Greene for most of the game, although the Hiram bats nearly tripled their opposition in terms of total hits (13-5). Hannah Marlow got the offense started with a two-run single in the third inning, scoring Fayth Kawamura and Danielle Robles – both of whom had bunt singles to start the frame – in the process.

While Greene continued to hang zeroes on the scoreboard throughout the high-pressure situations in the sixth, seventh and extra innings, the Terriers offense emerged in the 10th inning, when a runner is placed on second base to begin the frame. Robles was that automatic runner in the 10th, setting up an opportunity to use her speed to her advantage.

The junior from Highland, CA advanced to third on a passed ball and then forced an error by the shortstop in a rundown to give the road team a 3-2 lead. Marlow returned to the stat sheet with an RBI double to the opposite field, giving Hiram another two-run advantage.

Greene stranded her automatic runner in scoring position in the home half of the 10th, sealing the win and giving the Terriers a much-needed boost heading into the NCAC Tournament this upcoming week.

Hiram will begin its run in the NCAC Tournament this Thursday on the campus of Denison University in Granville, OH. Included in the event will be top-seeded Denison, along with DePauw, Hiram and Wittenberg. The Terriers' first opponent is still to be determined.
