Hiram Fights Back In 11-6 Loss To Baldwin Wallace

Fernandez Lifts 9th Home Run Of Season In Home Defeat

HIRAM, Ohio – April 23, 2025 – Hiram fought to the finish in another high-scoring battle at Fishel Field, as the Terriers scored six of the last seven runs in an 11-6 loss to Baldwin Wallace on Wednesday late afternoon.

Tyler Fernandez belted his ninth home run of the season in the seventh inning, a three-run shot that cut the Baldwin Wallace lead to 10-6. Not only did Fernandez have another of his signature towering shots over the left-field wall, but he also gained sole possession of third place on the program's leaderboard for most home runs in a single season.

2000 Joe Lisko 10
2025 Tyler Fernandez 9

John Bender also contributed out of the sixth spot in the batting order, notching a team-high two hits and scoring the Terriers' first run of the game in what shaped out to be a six-run seventh frame.

On the mound, it was the relief tandem of Savian Wilkins (1 IP, 0 R/ER) and Cooper Smith (2 IP, 0 R/ER) who kept the Yellow Jackets offense at bay for most of the second half of the non-conference contest. Smith now has 10 outings this season without an earned run allowed.

Baldwin Wallace scored the first 10 runs to take control, a lead that would hold through the final out. The Yellow Jackets are now 21-12 this season.

Hiram will return to action on Saturday, when it hosts the No. 5 team in all of Division III, Denison. First pitch for the NCAC doubleheader is slated for 12 p.m. at Fishel Field.
