BETHANY, West Virginia – April 1, 2025 – Hiram secured at least one home match in the PAC Tournament next week, as the team cruised to a straight-set victory over Bethany on Tuesday evening at Hummel Field House: 25-21, 25-16, 25-22.
With the victory, Hiram can guarantee itself the No. 2 seed and a berth in the PAC Semifinals with a win over Thiel on Friday. That match would be played in Price Gymnasium on Thursday, April 10. If the Terriers were to lose to Thiel on Friday, the team would then lock up the No. 3 seed and host a match in the quarterfinal round on Tuesday, April 8 instead.
Playoff implications aside, the Terriers continued the momentum they gained from this past Saturday's win over Saint Vincent. Hiram has now won consecutive PAC matches for the first time since the team started the conference slate with a 4-0 record.
Kyle Martini and Derek Chiang combined for 10 kills in a first set that saw Hiram trail, 16-12. Setter Matthew Albano helped his team get back in the set with nine assists during that span, which lifted his team to a convincing 8-2 run and eventual 25-21 opening set victory.
The Terriers turned to the depth of their bench for the remainder of the match, with nine different players recording at least one kill as part of a 25-16 win in the second set and 25-22 win in the third set. Darren Chiang took over for Albano as the primary setter, recording a career-high 13 assists. Cullen Sivak tied Martini with a team-high six kills, while Dakotah Welsh (five kills) and Jarod Leynes (four kills) also stepped up.
Hiram will celebrate Senior Night in its final regular-season home match on Wednesday; the team will host Mount Vernon Nazarene at 7 p.m. inside Price Gymnasium.
