GAMBIER, Ohio – April 1, 2025 – Hiram came close to earning its first conference win of the season, but an 11th-inning rally from Kenyon in Game 2 led to a pair of NCAC losses (14-4 and 5-4) on Tuesday afternoon at McCloskey Field.
Logan Gallentine and Luke Snider each had multiple hits and an RBI in Game 1, while Sam Boyle had his best outing of the season in Game 2 to highlight the day for the Terriers.
Game 1 Recap
The Terriers couldn't dig themselves out of an early hole to begin the afternoon, as the Owls tallied seven runs over the first three innings. Chaisson Marrs and Ethan Ryan pulled off a double-steal during that span to give Hiram its first run, but the score stood at 7-1 in favor of the home team.
Hiram scored one run in four straight innings during the contest, which also included RBI hits from Gallentine and Snider, as well as an RBI groundout from Matthew Trimble. Entering the bottom of the sixth, Hiram had cut the margin to three runs (7-4).
Kenyon pulled away in the later stages, though, scoring six runs over the final two innings to close out the first game.
Game 2 Recap
Boyle logged seven strong innings – which marked a new career-long outing – to put his team in a great position throughout Game 2. The graduate student was making his first NCAC start of 2025 and surrendered just three runs to finish with a final line of 7 IP, 6 H, 3 R/ER, 1 BB, 4 K.
The Hiram offense scored in the second and fourth innings on a sacrifice fly by Nate Thomas and an RBI double by Ethan Ryan. Ryan finished with a team-high three hits out of the seventh spot in the batting order.
Trimble delivered the game-tying blow, lifting a solo home run to left field to tie the game at 4-4 in the eighth. Moments later in extra innings, Hal Walker Jr. belted an RBI double to give Hiram a 4-3 lead.
Kenyon was down to its last out in the 10th inning, but an RBI single tied the score at 4-4. Hiram escaped that inning without any further damage before an RBI double in the 11th frame proved to be the difference in the highly entertaining battle.
