MEADVILLE, Pennsylvania - March 8, 2025 - Hiram went neck-and-neck with Allegheny in the first half before the Gators pulled away in the later stages of a 15-4 loss on Saturday late afternoon at Fuhrer Field.
Ethan Mayer (two goals) nearly matched Allegheny (four goals) in the first half alone, while goalkeeper Aidan Griffin neared his career-high of 23 saves from last season with 22 saves over the course of the full game. Allegheny's JP Rakis had seven goals and four assists to lead the home team in a fun matchup between a pair of teams that will both be competing in the PAC next season.
Hiram took the lead within the first three minutes of the game and later took a 2-1 lead in the opening three minutes of the second quarter. Both of those scores came courtesy of Mayer, who became the sixth player in program history to reach 70 career goals and added to his team-leading total of five goals this season. Levi Willett had both assists on the goals, giving him a team-high three assists on the year as well.
Allegheny would then score 12 of the next 13 goals in the game to take a 13-3 lead, with Willett adding a goal of his own during that span. With three points in the game (two goals, one assist), Willett matched his career-high for points in a single game (three points at La Roche on March 18, 2023).
The Gators scoring run proved to be the difference, as they held on for the win despite a goal from Micky Morgan.
Hiram will next make the trip to Anderson, IN for a non-conference road game against Anderson University on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
