MARIETTA, Ohio – March 24, 2025 – Hiram's Darian Kanno earned career win No. 41 on Monday afternoon at Marietta Field, logging her seventh straight complete game victory to start the 2025 season in a 6-3 win over Marietta.
The Terriers lost in Game 2, 10-2, as the busy week began with a split doubleheader against a team that entered play with an 11-1 record.
Game 1 Recap
Kanno improved to a perfect 7-0 in the circle, working around two runs in the fifth and a late rally in the seventh. The senior from Mililani, HI is now 41-20 for her career; only Whitney Dropsey (44 wins) is ahead of Kanno on the program's all-time wins leaderboard.
The Terriers offense applied constant pressure on the Pioneers, scoring at least one run in four consecutive innings. Fayth Kawamura led the charge with RBI singles in the third and fifth inning, while Kanno chipped in a sacrifice fly and two singles of her own. Ari Torres rounded out the lineup by recording her third career multi-hit performance, which included an RBI single in the sixth.
Kanno worked around traffic and capped off her outing with 11 strikeouts, including a punchout of the final hitter in the game. Kanno already has three games this season with double-digit strikeouts; Monday's total of 11 marked a new season-high.
Game 2 Recap
In Game 2, Marietta found the groove that has made it nearly an undefeated team up to this point in the season. The home team tallied 10 runs on two hits, but needed every bit of offense it could get against a Hiram team that didn't go away in the middle innings.
Hiram again was scoring later in the game; Torres plated her teammate Haven Papineau on an RBI single in the fourth and Kanno lifted a two-out, RBI double in the fifth to make it a 5-2 deficit.
The Terriers couldn't muster any more runs, but Danielle Robles was able to extend her hitting streak to a career-long eight games with a hit in each of the two games. Daynna Mekaru also had multiple hits to close out the doubleheader.
What's Next
Hiram will return to action on Wednesday, when it travels to New Concord, OH for a doubleheader against another OAC opponent, Muskingum. Game 1 between the two teams is scheduled for a 3:15 p.m. first pitch.
