SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – February 22, 2025 – The Terriers men's basketball team finished their season with an 86-73 loss to Wittenberg on Saturday late afternoon inside Pam Evans Smith Arena. Hiram hung close with the all-time winningest NCAA Division III men's basketball program by only being outscored by 3 points in the first half, but the home team pulled away in the second half to win its final game of the season.
Hiram's Trent Jakacki put together one of his signature performances in his final collegiate game, going an efficient 7-of-14 from the field and finishing with stats across all major categories: 18 points, three rebounds, four assists and four steals. Sophomore Galdan Batzorig joined his backcourt teammate in that efficient form, going 6-of-8 for 17 points, while junior Brock Makrancy made all three of his 3-pointers and totaled 13 points.
The Terriers shot 49.1% (26-53) over the full game, which was tied for their third-best mark in a conference game this season. The team also held its opposition to just a 39% FG pct in the first half, but the Tigers' 23 points off turnovers proved to be the difference in the game.
Hiram jumped out to a 9-2 lead over the first 4:45 of game time, a run that was capped by a dunk from senior Ivan Yang. Wittenberg eventually grabbed a lead as large as 7 points, but Hiram made it a 3-point margin at the intermission, with Batzorig and Jakacki providing a late spark in the final minute of the half.
The Terriers went 8-of-12 from 3-point range in the second half alone, giving the team their best 3-point FG pct in any game all season (61.9%) and tied for their most 3-point makes in a 2024-25 game (13). Those 3-pointers came from six different student-athletes; Jakacki put the exclamation point on the outburst by making the team's final two 3-pointers of the campaign.
The result marks the end to the season for the Terriers, who started by winning three of their first four games and stayed within striking distance in just about every single one of their 16 conference games throughout the winter. The team will carry those results into the offseason, where it looks to take a talented roster to new heights as a full-time member of the PAC in 2025-26.
