HIRAM, Ohio - February 15, 2025 -Â Hiram College's women's basketball team celebrated their five seniors and their accomplishments but ultimately fell short against Denison, 57-50, at Price Gymnasium. Despite the loss, the Terriers displayed grit and resilience, led by standout performances from
Brooke Hickman and
Isabella Caceres.
Prior to the tightly contested affair, Hiram honored seniors
Breyana Buxton,
Avril Drew,
Brooke Hickman,
Jo Janda and
Ava Mory for their contributions to the program in what marked one last game at Price Gymnasium. The team also recognized graduate student
Anastasia Lawler and assistant coach
Skye Green for serving critical roles with the program, too.
The Terriers came out energized, feeding off the home crowd's energy. Hickman established herself early on, scoring efficiently within the paint, while Caceres provided an outside scoring spark. Hiram trailed by just one after the first quarter, 18-17, but managed just 7 points in the second quarter as Denison took a 30-24 halftime lead.
Hiram battled back in the third quarter, with
Ava Mory and Caceres hitting key shots to keep the game within reach. However, Denison capitalized on second-chance opportunities and perimeter shooting to maintain its lead. The Terriers made a late push in the fourth quarter, with a clutch 3-pointer from
Anastasia Lawler and strong defensive stops keeping hope alive.
Despite outscoring Denison 15-12 in the final frame, Hiram's rally came up short.
The Terriers will hit the road on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Philips Gymnasium to take on Oberlin College.
