GREENCASTLE, Indiana - February 1, 2025 - The Hiram College men's basketball team put up a valiant effort but came up short against DePauw, falling 88-81 in a tightly contested NCAC matchup at Neal Fieldhouse. The game featured 14 lead changes and six ties, with Hiram staying competitive until the final moments.
The Terriers came out firing, shooting 51.4% from the field in the first half and keeping pace with the Tigers' balanced attack.
Brock Makrancy was electric, hitting seven 3-pointers on his way to a career-high 25 points.
Trent Jakacki played a key role as the floor general, contributing 14 points and dishing out a career-high 10 assists.
Despite a strong offensive showing, DePauw narrowly led 44-43 at halftime after capitalizing on second-chance opportunities.
Hiram continued to battle in the second half, with
Manuel Devora Violan adding 11 points and
DJ Niles providing crucial energy off the bench. The Terriers showed resilience, erasing multiple deficits and tying the game at 76 with just over four minutes remaining.
However, DePauw made critical plays down the stretch, including Kyle Lillwitz, who led the Tigers with 24 points. Hiram's late rally fell just short despite impressive shooting from Makrancy and a
Collin Jones 3-pointer in the final seconds.
The Terriers will look to regroup as they continue their season back at home against Ohio Wesleyan this Wednesday at 8 p.m.
