GREENVILLE, Pennsylvania – December 3, 2025- The Hiram women's basketball team traveled to Thiel College on Wednesday night to play their first PAC game since 1989. The Terriers found a way to win, as they fought hard to earn an overtime victory, 69-67, to move to 1-0 in conference play.
The Terriers were down late in the fourth quarter, 57-55, with just over two minutes remaining, forcing a dramatic finish to a back-and-forth affair on the road. Maya Joiner played a critical role in the biggest moments, coming through with a game-tying layup with 35 seconds to go before blocking what would've been the game-winning shot at the buzzer of the fourth quarter.
During overtime, the Terriers capitalized at the free throw line, sinking 6-of-8 free throws during that span to seal the hard-fought victory. Joiner scored 6 of the team's 12 points in the extra period to cap off a career evening.
Joiner finished the game with 20 points, 18 rebounds, seven blocks, and five steals over 45 minutes played (all five marks were career-highs). The seven blocks by Joiner ties the mark for the second-most in a game in school history (eight blocks by Jessica Harris in 2004), as well as the 18 rebounds finishing in the top-10 for most rebounds in a single game in school history. Joiner's free throws down the stretch helped make it a two-possession game and carry her team to the top of the PAC standings with a 1-0 conference clip.
For the game, Hiram had 13 blocks as a team, which set a new single-game program record. The previous best mark was 11 blocks against Ohio Wesleyan on Jan. 28, 2004.
Also leading the Terriers was Isabella Caceres, who finished with 13 points, five assists and a career-high four blocks.. Caceres also finished the game a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line, as she sank four free throws in overtime to give the Terriers the lead. This clutch play helped secure the win for Hiram.
The Hiram women's basketball team will be back in action on Saturday afternoon, when they welcome the Wolverines of Grove City College to Price Gymnasium for their first home game of the 2025-26 season at 1 p.m.
