ALFRED, New York - November 8, 2025 - You could not have scripted a better start to the 2025-26 season for the Hiram men's basketball team, as the Terriers beat Lycoming, 82-60, to win the Crossbar Alfred Classic in New York on Saturday evening.
Â
It was a huge result for Hiram, who won both of its games at the event to start the season on the right foot. Both Josh Martin and Collin Jones earned spots on the All-Tournament Team, with Jones also being named the MVP of the event.
Â
Martin and Jones were the fuel to Hiram's success throughout the week, but particularly on Saturday, with the duo combining for 30 points on 11-19 shooting in the "winner's game" of the tournament. Martin drained four 3-pointers and picked up five rebounds, while Jones had a team-high six rebounds and two assists to go along with the offensive production.
Â
The Terriers never trailed in the game, jumping out to a 10-0 lead at the start and extending that advantage to a game-high 18 points before the halftime buzzer. Martin had 13 of his 16 points during that span, finding his stroke from many ranges on the court.
Â
Lycoming would not get closer than 15 points in the second half, with Hiram having 10 different student-athletes recording points over the final 20 minutes. DJ Niles also was a big contributor, scoring all 10 of his points – which included 5-of-5 shooting from the field – in the second half.Â
Â
Hiram will celebrate the two wins and enjoy the rest of the weekend before returning to action next Saturday at Bluffton at 7 p.m.
