HIRAM, Ohio – January 25, 2025 – The Terriers women's basketball team didn't back down despite losing to Wittenberg, 73-53, in an NCAC showdown in Price Gymnasium. The Terriers battled hard throughout, delivering strong stretches of play against a formidable opponent and outscoring their opposition in the second half, 32-29.
Despite the Tigers' fast start, Hiram's
Brooke Hickman and
Ava Mory provided early sparks for the Terriers, with a combined 13 first-half points. The Terriers worked to find their rhythm offensively but faced challenges breaking through Wittenberg's tough interior defense, heading into halftime trailing, 44-21.
Hiram came out energized in the second half, with
Star Owens leading the charge down low and
Avril Drew attacking the basket. The Terriers outscored Wittenberg 16-14 in the third quarter, showing their ability to adjust and compete.
Juliana Gunn added a burst off the bench, too, hitting key shots, including a pair of 3-pointers.
Defensively, Hiram held Wittenberg to an 0-10 mark from beyond the perimeter in the second half alone. While the Tigers maintained their lead, Hiram found an offensive rhythm behind a 5-player lineup consisting of
Isabella Caceres,
Diara Parsons, Owens, Gunn and
Maya Joiner.
Hiram will now look ahead to its next matchup, ready to build on the positives from this game when it takes on the DePauw Tigers next Saturday at 3 p.m. in Greencastle, IN.
