HIRAM, Ohio - January 11, 2025 - Hiram held its opposition to 2 points in the third quarter before the offense ripped off a 33-point fourth quarter in an 82-51 victory over Kenyon on Saturday afternoon at Price Gymnasium.
The dominant second half and eventual victory marks the Terriers' first conference win of the 2024-25 campaign; it's also their largest margin of victory over the Owls in the history of the all-time matchup, which dates back to 1981 (54 games).
Isabella Caceres was the star of the show, coming just three rebounds shy of the first triple-double in program history. The first-year from Cypress, CA finished with 13 points, 10 assists, seven rebounds, four steals and one block.
Brooke Hickman led all student-athletes in the game with 25 points, which carved out the fifth game of 25+ points in her three-year career in the blue and red. Hickman also had a game-high 11 rebounds, while Anastasia Lawler added five steals for a team that had its most steals in a home game this season (18).
Kenyon led after the first quarter, 16-11, before Hiram grabbed a 1-point lead heading into the intermission. The Hiram defense stepped up in making that turnaround, allowing a 47% FG pct in the first quarter but just a 25% FG pct in the second quarter.
There ended up being an even higher level of intensity to the Hiram defense, as the Terriers held Kenyon to just 2 points over the entirety of the third quarter. The Owls went 0-8 from the field during that span and Hickman scored 11 of her 25 points to catapult the home team to a 21-point lead.
The fourth quarter was the cherry on top, with the offense combining to shoot 65% (11-17) to grow the lead as large as 31 points, which ended up being the final margin of the game. The playmaking of Caceres and the offensive consistency of Hickman proved to be too much for the opposition, with Jo Janda tallying another 12 points off the bench to fill out an impressive stat sheet.
Hiram will continue its rigorous conference schedule on Wednesday, when it travels to Wooster, OH for a road battle with the Fighting Scots. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. inside Timken Gymnasium.
