WOOSTER, Ohio - January 15, 2025 – The Hiram College women's basketball team outscored their opposition by 29 points in the second half of a decisive 96-68 victory against Wooster in an NCAC clash at Timken Gymnasium.
Hiram scored 32 points on 68% shooting in the third quarter (13-19) and tallied 28 points on 52% shooting in the fourth quarter (11-21) to turn a 1-point halftime deficit into a dominant final result.
Jo Janda had a career day to spearhead the road team, tying a career-high with 24 points, 12 of which came in the third quarter that changed the complexion of the game. The senior made four of the five 3-pointers that she attempted and tied a career-high four steals.
Brooke Hickman led the starting unit with 21 points, asserting herself in the paint and on the boards. Ava Mory (14) and Anastasia Lawler (11) combined for 25 points, while the Terriers bench finished with 43 points on the evening.
The first quarter set the tone for a tightly contested opening, with the score tied at 16-16 early on and Wooster's Mackenzie Riccitelli sinking three 3-pointers. Mory and Hickman responded with an offensive presence in the frontcourt – the duo combined for 19 points in the first half – ensuring the game remained within reach. The second quarter saw Wooster edge slightly ahead, outscoring Hiram 21-20 to take a 37-36 leading into halftime.
Hiram turned the game around in in the third quarter, exploding for 32 points behind those 12 points from Janda. Lawler drilled three 3-pointers in the third period alone and added 11 points during that span, pulling the Hiram team ahead by double-digits entering the final 10 minutes of the contest.
The fourth quarter showed the many talents of the Terriers, as they held the opposition to just two made field goals for the entirety of the last period. Eight different Hiram student-athletes scored in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
The victory improves Hiram's record to 9-6 overall and 2-2 in the NCAC, with both of those conference wins coming over the past week. Hiram will continue its push through the NCAC season with another road game this Saturday at Denison.
