BEREA, Ohio - September 4, 2024 - The Hiram women's volleyball team dropped its first away game of the season, losing in three sets to a talented Baldwin Wallace team that had nearly knocked off No. 24 Mount St. Joseph earlier this season.
It was the Terriers' first match away from the Cedar Point Sports Center, where they went 1-3 to start the fall campaign. Cate Maguire led her team with six kills, while Kelly Hoffman had 11 assists and Sydney Wenzel had 13 digs.
Hiram played its best volleyball in the second set, when it had eight kills against just four attack errors (.129 hitting percentage). Five different Terriers student-athletes recorded at least one kill in the set, which helped the team grow its lead to as large as four points (14-10).
Baldwin Wallace answered with three separate scoring runs of at least two points to take the second set, 25-20. For the entire match, the Yellow Jackets had 40 kills against 15 attack errors (.231 hitting percentage), which helped them to a pair of strong efforts in the first and third sets, too.
Hiram will have a quick turnaround, as it will next travel to Washington, PA for a non-conference – and future PAC – battle with the Washington and Jefferson Presidents on Friday at 7 p.m. inside the Salvitti Family Gymnasium.
