HIRAM, Ohio – September 4, 2024 – The Hiram College women's soccer team took to the field for their second game of the season in a hard-fought home match against the Muskingum University Fighting Muskies, ultimately falling, 2-1.
Muskingum struck first, scoring a goal early in the match, but the Terriers refused to back down. They regrouped and maintained their composure.
Hiram found its groove in the second half, scoring its first goal of the season and earning a number of scoring opportunities throughout the final 45 minutes. Olivia Kraft was the first Terriers student-athlete to record a goal in 2024, as she delicately placed a header shot through the back of the net on a corner kick from Sydney Ladage. It was the surge in momentum that gave the Terriers new life, as they began to take more risks, pressing higher up the field and taking more shots on goal.
On the defensive side, Briana Troyan played a vital role by playing the full 90 minutes and helping limit the Fighting Muskies to four shots in the second half. In goal for the Terriers, Madie Kennedy was a force to be reckoned with, making three saves on the five shots Muskingum threw her way to keep her team in the contest.
The difference ended up being a Gracie McNeal goal in the 61st minute, which also came on a corner kick. Hannah Ritchie was credited with the assist on the decisive play.
Next up, the Terriers will play their first road game of the season, when they take on the University of Olivet Comets in Olivet, MI on Saturday at 1 p.m.
