GRANVILLE, Ohio - September 28, 2024 - Hiram lost its conference opener to Denison, 35-0, on Saturday afternoon at Deeds Field.
It was a game that was highlighted by explosive plays, with the Hiram offense picking up a 55-yard gain on a pass from Myles Miller to Jordan Stapleton and a 36-yard completion to CC Harrison.
Denison did the same, scoring on a 62-yard interception return and a 51-yard touchdown pass, protecting its home field on a drizzly day in Granville in the process.
Miller finished the day with a career-high 161 passing yards; the freshman from Burton, Ohio has increased his passing yardage from 70 to 108 to 161 yards throughout Weeks 1-3. Although Hiram couldn't crack the scoring column, its offensive line prevented both of its quarterbacks in the game (also Gabriel Lawson) from getting sacked.
The Terriers defense was able to achieve that feat, with Riley Haugh and Janado Taylor both recording a sack. Juan Estrada, Devyn Mercilliott and Kole Tarary also had tackles for loss in the NCAC affair.
The Big Red was all about balance, scoring at least seven points in each of the four quarters and finishing with 236 passing yards and 146 rushing yards. Quarterback Tyler Green went 21-24 through the air for 227 yards and 3 touchdowns in the winning effort.
Hiram will take the next week off before returning to the gridiron on Saturday, October 12 for a home game against Kenyon at 1 p.m.
