PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania - September 25, 2024 - Hiram scored its most goals in over 10 years on Wednesday late afternoon, as it cruised to a 6-1 victory over La Roche at the Baierl Athletic Complex.
It marked the program's most goals in a single match since September 10, 2014, when the Terriers beat Franciscan, 8-4.
The freshmen spearheaded the scoring surge, with Alex Lineen and Bedo Kusuni each scoring twice, while Erik Rangel Negrete and Reginal Johnson also found the back of the net. Lineen, Kusuni and Johnson each had registered their first collegiate goal in the win, helping extend Hiram's unbeaten streak to four.
Hiram applied constant pressure against the Redhawks defense, scoring in the sixth, 22nd and 30th minutes of the first half alone. Lineen was first to find the back of the net before later earning a penalty kick to give the Terriers 1-0 and 3-1 leads. Rangel Negrete sandwiched a score between the two goals to also give the road team some breathing room.
Then came Kusuni, who scored his first two collegiate goals in a span of five minutes after Hiram had its longest scoring drought of the match. The 59th- and 64th-minute goals carved out a 5-1 lead; the Terriers had now scored as many goals on Wednesday as they had in their first six matches of the season combined.
Johnson topped off the one-sided affair, scoring off a Chance McGinnis pass to finish La Roche, 6-1. The freshman from Lorain, OH was playing in his second contest of the campaign.
Hiram will get one final tuneup before the start of conference play, when it hosts Muskingum on Saturday at 7 p.m. from Henry Field in Hiram, Ohio.
