GREENVILLE, Pennsylvania – September 21, 2024 - The Hiram women's soccer team put together a dominant performance on the road, shutting out Thiel College, 3-0, for the team's first road win and first shutout of the 2024 campaign.
It was a record-setting performance again for Reagan Mory, who tied the program record and became the fifth student-athlete (sixth instance) to record three assists in a single match. The last to achieve the feat was Hannah Ward in 2017 against the same Thiel program.
Kylianne Durachinsky and Mackenzie Morrison each scored their first career goals in the winning effort, while Sydney Ladage cracked the scoring column for the first time this season (second in career).
Hiram quickly set the tone in the match, creating early scoring opportunities and executing when it needed to. In the 12th minute, forward Kylianne Durachinsky opened things up by scoring a well-placed shot off with an assist from Mory.
The pressure didn't stop there. Hiram kept testing Thiel's defense with multiple shots on goal, with Bella Simmons and Ladage leading the charge (six combined shots on goal).
In the 26th minute, senior Mackenzie Morrison doubled Hiram's advantage with a powerful strike following another assist from Mory, who played a heavy role in setting up the offense. Morrison's goal not only gave her team a multi-goal advantage heading into the intermission, but it also marked the first time in 57 career games in which she found the back of the net.
The Terriers kept the flame going in the second half, with Hiram maintaining offensive pressure and keeping Thiel pinned in their own half. Hiram took 11 more shots than the Tomcats in the second half, punctuating the game with firm control of the ball.
In the 90th minute, Hiram put the finishing touches on a stellar performance with Ladage scoring the third and final goal of the match, once again assisted by Mory.
The late goal marked Mory's third assist of the match, capping off an outstanding playmaking performance. Ladage was one of Hiram's most active attackers, taking four shots on goal before finally finding the right spot to score just before the final whistle.
Hiram's defense held strong throughout, allowing only five shots from Thiel, with just one on target. Emma Deffenbaugh, the Terriers' goalkeeper, earned her first shutout of the season, playing a full 90 minutes and stopping the lone shot on goal from Thiel.
Next, the Terriers will play a home match against Saint Mary's College this coming Wednesday at 7 p.m. from Henry Field in Hiram, Ohio.
