Richardson Posts Double-Digit Kills, Maguire Finds Rhythm In 4-Set Loss To Heidelberg

Hiram Falls In 2nd Match Of Back-To-Back

HIRAM, Ohio – September 11,2024  – The Hiram women's volleyball team took a hard-fought loss against Heidelberg University in its second home match of the season, falling in four sets at Price Gymnasium: 26-24, 20-25, 25-18, 25-15.

Hiram started strong, going point-for-point with Heidelberg, putting in the necessary work to push the OAC foe to the brink. The Terriers grabbed a 24-22 lead and had a pair of set points, but the Student Princes rattled off four straight points to pull ahead in the match, 1-0. Emily Richardson did the majority of the damage in the set, recording a team-high three kills during that span.

Hiram responded with a solid performance in the second set, pulling just enough ahead to take the set, 24-20, and even the match at one set apiece. Highlighting the set was a 5-0 rally to turn a 7-4 deficit into a 9-7 lead, with four of those points coming on the serve of first-year Morgan Tomblin.

Heidelberg regained momentum in the third and fourth sets, tallying 14 and 15 kills during that span to take control and bring its season record to 5-4. The Berg had a hitting percentage above .300 in each of the two sets, while Hiram's Cate Maguire had four of her five kills during that span.

The Terriers will next travel to Wooster, OH to take part in the Ginny Hunt Kilt Classic on Friday, which includes a 2:30 p.m. match against Geneva and a 4:30 p.m. battle against Kalamazoo.
