HIRAM, Ohio – September 1, 2024 – The Hiram women's soccer team opened its season with a 3-0 loss to Saint Vincent on Sunday afternoon at Henry Field.
The Terriers featured a stout defense in the first half, limiting their opposition to just five shots during that span (three shots on goal), none of which found the back of the net. The Bearcats went on to fire 20 shots in the second half, though, which included the decisive scores in the match.
Hiram's Bella Simmons – who played all 90 minutes in the game – was active throughout the contest, recording the team's first shot on goal in the 27th minute. Reagan Mory and Becca Devericks also found the target with their shots, but the opposing goalkeeper kept the slate clean to secure the non-conference victory.
Defender Briana Troyan and goalkeeper Madie Kennedy were also key pieces to the defensive effort, with Troyan playing the entire game and Kennedy recording nine saves in her collegiate debut, which included a number of leaping deflections.
For Saint Vincent, Madisen Geesaman (50th minute), Emma Koller (61st minute) and Bella Meder (72nd minute) provided the offense in the match. It continues a strong start to the season for the Bearcats, who enter the second week of the fall with a 2-0 record.
The Terriers will have an opportunity to get in the win column on Wednesday, when they play host to Muskingum at 5 p.m. from Henry Field in Hiram, Ohio.
